Determined to solve the issue of incessant operations and activities under the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, high tension right of way, the Anambra State Government delegation has paid a visit to Old Motor Spare Parts Market, Mgbuka, Obosi, where they were conducted round the areas obstructing TCN power lines.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, Executive Chairman of Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Maduekwe, a representative of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, as well as Executive members of the market were part of the visit round the affected areas.
On arrival, it was observed that there were areas and shops already marked as obstruction by the TCN since last year.
Speaking after being conducted round the affected areas, Commissioner Okafor said having assessed the situation, the State Government will go back to the drawing board and chart next line of action, saying that whatever will be done, will be a gradual process.
On his part, Barrister Maduekwe noted that it is dangerous to trade under the high tension line because of health and life threatening risks involved, stressing that lasting solutions will be proffered.
The team thereafter went into a closed door meeting with the market stakeholders.
Recall that recently, a team from the Regional office of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Enugu, visited concerned authorities in the State and complained about ongoing commercial activities under the three hundred and thirty KVA line, Mgbuka Market, Obosi, as well as other areas.
During their visit, they made a presentation to Government on the inherent dangers and risks in operating close to the power lines and advocated relocation of the operators.
They expined that whatever operations that should happen around the high tension should be nothing less than twenty five meters away from the middle of the power lines, at both ends.
