The South East Governors’ Forum, has resolved to give legal backing and operational modalities to the newly formed joint security outfit, the Ebubeagu.
To this end, the forum in its meeting last night agreed to set up an Advisory Board for the security outfit; as well as directed Attorneys General and Commissioners for Justice of the South East States to work with the Joint Security Committee to come up with  amendment of the existing State Laws to reflect the new EBUBEAGU outfit;
According to a  communique  signed by the chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi state, Engr Dave Umahi ,meeting also directed Ohaneze Ndigbo President to immediately form two Committees; South East Peace and Reconciliation Committee and Strategy and Welfare Committee.
The communique said  the committees are to engage people  of the zone  to promote peace and security with her visitors, and to engage and protect the people, especially those who are being unfairly treated.
It states that these committees must become functional within the next ten days from Sunday, 25th April, 2021.
The meeting restated its support for restructuring, the setting up of State Police and other national issues as discussed in the last NEC meeting.
Meanwhile, the South East Governors’ Forum in the communique   condemned the attacks on the country home of the Governor of Imo State,  Senator Hope Uzodimma and  other State infrastructure, calling on the Federal Government to fish out the perpetrators and ensure their prosecution.
The South East leaders restated their commitments to  State laws banning open grazing in the South East and urged the security agencies and the local vigilantes to enforce the ban in all States of South East;
They also agreed on the implementation of various END SARS Youth Empowerment Programmes in the South East States as soon as possible.
