The Methodist Bishop of Onitsha, Right Reverend Linus Onuagha has condemned the myriad of socio-political and religious crisis bedeviling the nation.
This formed part of the submission of the presidential charge of the nineteenth Synod of the Diocese held at Christ Methodist Church, Nkpor-Agu with the theme “watch and pray”.
Bishop Onuagha, who highlighted the positive contributions, growth and efforts of the Diocese in propagation of faith and expansion of evangelism, enumerated success stories during the year under review.
He said the country is blessed with abundant natural and human resources, expressing worry over the mindless destruction of lives, kidnapping, corruption and vices that has continued unabated.
The Prelate lamented overheating of the nation’s polity with agitations and counter agitations and lauded Governor Willie Obiano for the landmark development and legacy projects, saying that the Anambra Cargo International Airport, is the first of its kind.
He extolled the South East Governors for the establishment of a regional security outfit and advocated total implementation.
In a keynote address, a guest speaker Brother Chris Amaechi of Port-Harcourt Methodist Diocese who said the theme of the Synod “Watch and pray” was insightful in view of present realities on ground, reminded the delegates of the need to be spiritually awake as watchmen, calling for willingness and selfless service to God.
Adopting the forty paged presidential charge as a working document and useful information for the society, the Synod secretary, Very Reverend Ugada Onweringo, noted that the address was comprehensive, historic, timely and apt.
Speaking on the significance of the Synod, the lay president, Sir Onyekachi Nwulo said the massive turnout was impressive and the contributions encouraging.
Contributing the host Priest, Very Reverend Cyprian Anichie, who expressed appreciation to God for the successful Synod prayed for those in leadership positions to be passionate on the welfare of the poor masses.
