The Students Union Government of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam campus, has enjoined students of the institution not to panic over the recent killing of persons and livestock in Ukpomachi village, Awkuzu, where students equally live, as adequate arrangements have been made to ensure improved security in the area.
The Union however called for security consciousness among the students at all times, and advised those living around the crime scene to consider temporal relocation to safer places.
In an interview with ABS Correspondent, Joseph Egbeocha, the SUG President of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwe Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus, Comrade Kizito Okemadu, said no student suffered any harm from the incident, and that relevant authorities have pledged commitment to ensure safety of lives and property of students.
Meanwhile, following the discovery of the dead bodies with matchet cuts, which Police source said are nine in number, people, mostly students living in hostels around the area have continued to relocate in droves, despite assurances of safety by the Government, security agencies and the University management.
When ABS visited hostels around the scene of the incident, only a handful of students, menial workers and commercial motorcyclists were observed, who chose to be anonymous in explaining that gunshots, wailings were heard in the neighborhood at night, before the shocking discovery in the morning.
Meanwhile, while explaining that some pictures and videos circulating on the social media were not from the Awkuzu incident, the Anambra State government has imposed curfew on Igbariam, Aguleri, Umueri, Nteje, Awkuzu And Umunya communities, between 7pm and 6am daily, advising Ndi Anambra and residents of the state living in these communities to obey the curfew order, as security personnel are on strict orders to enforce the curfew.
