The Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Afam Mbanefo has mandated all taxi operators in the state to register under the transport management system of the ministry.

Commissioner Mbanefo gave the mandate at Aguleri, Anambra East Council Area during the inauguration of Omabala Chapter of the Association of Taxi/Cab Transport Operators of Nigeria, Anambra State Branch.

Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor-Okoye reports that Mr. Mbanefo, who gave details , importance and opportunities of the registration said it will help the government  have data of the operators, details of their vehicles and locations in which they operates.

Represented by the Head, Transport Operations in the Ministry, Mr. Christopher Okeke, the Commissioner noted that it will also assist them in deploying taxi through their app without seeking for any coordinator as well as checkmate crime and criminality.

The state chairman of the Association, Mr. Chekwube Okoli confirmed that taxi operators are in line with the standard set up by the Ministry and commended Governor Willie Obiano for digitalizing the state taxi operating system urging  members to register.

The Association’s Consultant, Mr. Kingsley Nwokoye applauded the present leadership in the state for transforming all sectors of the economy stating that they are working in tandem with the government to ensure safety and security while pleading for approval to operate at the International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated Omabala chairman, Mr. Arinze Chijindu thanked the association for finding him worthy of the position and beckoned on them to adhere to instructions, be law abiding even as he  appealed to the Commissioner to create a level playing ground for them to operate at the International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri.
