Governor Willie Obiano has restated the commitment of his administration towards maintaining good relationship with workers in the State.
He stated this at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka during an event to mark this year’s workers day.
Government House Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo was there and reports that Governor Willie Obiano who spoke through his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke commended workers in the State for supporting his administration since inception in 2014 and assured that his government will continue to prioritize the worker’s welfare.
Governor Obiano called on them to be more proactive and dedicated to duty in order to assist his government and subsequent governments in repositioning the development for the good of all.
Earlier in his address, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Jerry Nnubia called on government at different levels to come up with policies and programmes such as affordable housing scheme for workers, mass transportation schemes, skill acquisition programmes for the youths, and other subsidized services to help cushion the effects of the current social and economic crisis, including the reduction of crime and criminality in Nigeria.
On his part, the State Chairman Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu while commending Governor Obiano for prompt payment of workers’ salaries, appealed for prompt promotion and advancement of workers in the State.
He also appealed for creation of more job opportunities for the youths in the State as a way of curbing crime and criminality.
This year’s event has its theme as “COVID-19, Social and Economic Crisis: Challenges for Decent Jobs, Social Protection and People’s Welfare”.
