The eyes of the world are on Anambra State, for the most euphoric reason: two test-run flights touched down the runway of Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri, on Friday last week. Not that breaking new grounds, raising bars and setting standards are unprecedented denominators in an Anambra environment. No.

Anambra is all of that and even more. But, this is different – the whole world has its fingers crossed as Governor Willie Obiano breaks a mammoth political jinx that had become an appalling banter against every “onye” Anambra. History is smiling on Anambra State today and the man behind the heroics is set to go down as a colossus.

The Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport is an eighth wonder, an enigmatic stare that unfurls incomprehensible beauty and epical courage. The airport is a three-point-seven kilometer runway, broad enough to harbor two cargo jets, with two racers of one kilometer each attached to its either sides, which makes the runway the longest in Nigeria. The airport is also a replica of Governor Obiano’s charisma: a man who has inimitable penchant for class and panache.

The record is crisp and clean, Governor Obiano is taking Anambra State up above her peers, to an enviable height that would take other states millennia to attain. The story of Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport is a spectacular one. Having been begun barely fifteen months ago, the advancement of works at the site has beaten both time and expectations.

The massive project depicts bravery, and its completion would definitely rejig the socio-economic competitiveness of Anambra State. As the Mayor of London Brough of Brent, Anambra State-born Counselor Ernest Ezeajughi, who was stunned after touring the airport, rightly stated, “the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport stands comparatively unique with what is obtained elsewhere across the developed world”.

The landing of the two test-run planes at the airport last Friday is significant for a litany of reasons. One, this is the first time in the history of the state that something this iconic is happening. Aeroplane had never landed anywhere in the state.

Two, it goes to show that Anambra State is finally ready to stake her claims as an abode renowned for excellence. The ideal Anambra spirit refuses to be intimidated, deterred or overpowered. Anambra is a name that strikes reverence.

Three, the touch-down of the two aircrafts at the Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport stimulates anticipation and an undying appetite. To imagine Ndi Anambra across the globe booking their flights to land at their home airport is a colourful picture that has refused to fade away.

Thus, it is now a prime responsibility of every “onye” Anambra to support Governor Obiano’s perfect administrative waltz. The Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport is an Anambra project. It belongs to us. It is our pride and banter power. Therefore, we must all rally behind the man behind the wheel.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Burundi and a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Elijah Onyeagba, was honest when he remarked that “irrespective of political affiliations, Governor Obiano has broken a huge jinx with the construction of the Airport”. That reality is what Ndi Anambra must embrace, as it is only in recognition of its potency that we can beat out chests in pride.

Governor Obiano is an architect of wonders; a man whose technocratic ideologies overwhelm even his critics. Just like the popular Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka, expressly stated that “friends and foes shall applaud Governor Obiano when Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport is completed”. The indicators are already there, hanging around to herald the epic dawn of Obiano’s Anambra State. It is a story that will outlive generations. Indeed, history will be kind to Governor Willie Maduburochukwu

Obiano.
