Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Management Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has set aside Wednesday, May 5, 2021 for the Valedictory Lecture Festschrift cum compendium presentation of Reverend Cannon Professor Ben Chuka Osisioma, who, until his retirement in 2020, was the founder, Department of Accountancy, UNIZIK; Pioneer Head, teacher, mentor, career guide, role model, and counselor of sorts and Emeritus Professor in the Department of Accountancy, UNIZIK.
Born October 14, 1950, Prof. Osisioma holds many academic qualifications, including Ph.D in Finance, University of Nigeria, Nsukka 1989; MBA in Finance, UNN 1983; BSC (1st Class) in Accountancy UNN-1977. Promoted to the rank of Professor of Accountancy in 1991, Osisioma has thirty-two years of continuous teaching in the university system from 1988 to 2020.
Prof. Osisioma belongs to over 12 academic/professional bodies and has over 13 academic distinction Awards and Honours. He has published sixteen books, 24 chapter contributions in books of readings, 50 journal publications, 133 conference/seminar papers and 21 text of General Interest, among others.
As Pioneer Staff and Head of Department in 1991, Canon Prof. Benjamin Chuka Osisioma pioneered curriculum development in the Department at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He designed from the scratch the MBA, MSc and PhD programmes of the Department. He pioneered both the Faculty PhD programme, and the Faculty Journal, Journal of the Management Sciences.
Prof. Osisioma has taught and produced high flying Professors of International repute. His peers, colleagues and students know him as a man of impeccable character. His lofty and many enviable achievements endeared him to many and earned him the title: “The Doyen of Accountancy Profession in Nigeria”.
Canon Prof. Benjamin Osisioma initiated, packaged and successfully mounted Postgraduate programmes up to PhD level in the Faculty of Management Sciences, particularly in Accountancy and Banking and Finance. More so, he taught and spear-headed the supervision of the first ten and first two PhD graduates in Accountancy and Banking and Finance respectively.
Prof. Benjamin Osisioma successfully supervised a total of forty PhD and over a hundred MBA/MSc candidates, excluding those he supervised in other Universities like University of Nigeria, University of Jos (during his sojourn at Nigeria College of Accountancy, Jos as the Director-General), Ebonyi State University and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. He has and is still leading and mentoring many young and budding Academics.
Canon Prof. Benjamin Chuka Osisioma applied his wealth of administrative endowment, endearing humane leadership style to advance the mission and vision of UNIZIK in many ways. His intellectual prowess was put to use at the highest policy-making body of the University, the Governing Council. He served for four years as a Senate Representative In Council. Also, he was the Pioneer Director of the Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial studies.
Prof. Osisioma touched and impacted positively all who came in contact with him, both locally and internationally. No wonder, the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Management Sciences, and University Community, in collaboration with mentees, friends and well-wishers will converge on the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Auditorium tomorrow, May 5, 2021 to honour this erudite and quintessential professor of great repute.
Those expected to grace the occasion include the Guest Speaker, Venerable Professor Chinedu Nebo, CON, Former Minister of Power; Chairman on the occasion, Senator Dr. Ken Nnamani, Onwa Enugu and Former Senate President; General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR, Former Head of State of Nigeria and Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Agbogidi, Obi of Onitsha.
Other distinguished guests expected are: Igwe Godwin Ezeilo of Nanka; Senator Dr. Uche Ekwunife – Iyom, Chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology; Guest of Honour, Dr. Nkem Okeke, Deputy Governor of Anambra State, among others. Come and join us to celebrate this Doyen of Accountancy.
