The Director, Extension Services, Anambra Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Grace Muojekwu, has unveiled the state government’s readiness to combat hunger and food insecurity.

 

Mrs. Muojekwu, who gave the indication during a training on Pod-Borer Resistant, PBR, Cowpea at Awka, said the training, which simultaneously took place at four ADP zones in the state was aimed at training farmers on PBR Cowpea.

According to her, the PBR Cowpea will increase production through the control of Maruca pod-borer, resulting in larger harvests, higher income and improved health.

She urged the participants to listen attentively to be able to implement whatever they learnt once they receive the seedlings.

The facilitator, Mr. Alex Izuako, who is also an Extension Agent with the ADP advised them to obtain PBR Cowpea seedlings from certified Agro Dealers or State Agricultural Development Projects to guarantee its resistant efficacy.

Mr. Izuako said the seeds could be propagated manually with sticks, cutlass as well as mechanically at two point four centimeter deep.
