Federal Road Safety Corps has expressed willingness to partner the Council of Knights in traffic management in Anambra.

 

Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi stated this shortly after his inspection visit to Anambra International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri.

 

Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that work has been accelerated  to complete the project.

As is customary since the project commenced a year ago, Governor Obiano embarked on his weekly inspection visit to the site in company of his wife, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano, Senator Joy Emordi, Council of Knights of the Anglican Communion, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Boboye Oyeyemi, Chief Executive Officer of Rotech Energy Services Limited, Chief Austin Oguejiofor, among others.

 

Speaking at Aguleri, Mr. Oyeyemi who noted that Governor Obiano has been so supportive to  their activities, said that traffic is a sign of prosperity, noting that places like Onitsha with  little or no room for expansion,  needed proper traffic management and discipline in the area.

He also highlighted the need for   a flyover at the 3-3 axis of Onitsha.

Responding, Governor Obiano said that the state government is looking at maximum of two months to certify the airport ready  for commercial flights operation, emphasizing that funds were not borrowed for the project.

 

The Governor, who said that he invited the Knights because of his great respect for them, as most of them give him so much support,  stated  his desire for them to support anybody coming after him as the new governor.

 

Speaking at the airport, the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor who disclosed  that equipment  for the terminal building and the control tower have all being paid for, said that the aerodrome fencing is ninety five percent completed.

While noting that the test run operation conducted on the thirtieth of April, 2021 was successfully passed, Engineer Ifejiofor commended  the governor for prompt payment of contractors which he said  is why the project is progressing rapidly.

Also speaking,  a former Chairman of  the Police Service Commission, Chief Simon Okeke said that Governor Obiano deserves award for achieving such feat in so short a period.

 

The nine members of Councils of Knights present at the inspection visit took turns to commend the project and  prayed for the governor, his family and administration.

Since the last visit to the Airport facility , visible changes were noted including completion of the two taxiways, advancement in the  water reticulation project, completion of block work within the terminal building, ongoing tiling of the terminal building, among others.
