A Nutritionist Deaconess Josephine Onuigbo has underscored fruits as very essential in building the immune system, as they can be eaten as food for nourishment of the body.

 

Deaconess Onuigbo who was speaking to ABS staff reporter Ifeoma Okigbo at Nnobi, said fruits add value in refreshing the body, describing them as excellent sources of minerals and fibres, which fight diseases such as diabetes, cancer, anemia and supplies energy to the body.

 

According to her, Fruits contain all the vital nutrients needed in the body system, as they purify the system and make the body fresh.

 

She identified such fruits to include Oranges, Paw-Paw, Apple, Banana, Watermelon, Pineapple, among others.

 

Deaconess Onuigbo maintained that all fruits build the immune adding that Mango contains vitamin A and is good for sight, while Sour-Soup contains Vitamin B17, and it fights cancer and other ailments in the body.

 

She noted that some patients are advised to abstain from taking over ripped banana as it is not good for diabetic patients.

 

The nutritionist also advised that oranges, lemon and Pineapple are not too good for ulcer patients, due to their high acidic ratio, which is harmful to them.

 

She said that despite the fact that fruits are essential to the body system, they should be taken moderately because too much of it could be harmful to the body.
