The Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim has called for adequate Security of life and properties in Nigeria.

 

Most Reverend Ibezim stated this while delivering his 2021 Synod Charge at Saint Michael and All Angel’s Anglican Church, Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The Synod which is Second Session of the Twelfth Synod has its theme as “Expanding Our Ministerial Coasts: Implications for the Ordained and the Laity.”

 

Most Reverend Ibezim who is also the Bishop of Awka Anglican Diocese, noted that the country is experiencing economic, educational and political insecurity as well as thuggery, assassination, kidnapping, raping of women and girls and called for serious action to be taken.

The Anglican Prelate said that over dependence on oil as a major source of revenue has enslaved Nigeria for a very long time and proposed immediate diversification of the country’s economy.

 

Most Reverend Ibezim commended  the successes recorded in the state by Governor Willie Obiano, describing the Anambra International Cargo and passenger Airport, Umueri, as a land mark achievement, even as he commended the Governor for prompt payment of worker’s salaries and allowances.

On his part, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor who thanked God for the theme of the synod, said it touches almost all aspects of life, stating that Christians in Nigeria must come together and defend their faith at this critical period.

 

Speaking in an interview, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee of the Synod, Mr. Obinna Etele appreciated God for the success of the synod and explained  that it is part of evangelism.

 

The Archbishop, Most Reverend Ibezim later empowered some of the clergy men and Miss Amarachi Okolo of Girls Secondary School, Awka who came top in the 2020 SDG’s Mathematics Quiz competition organised by Mathematical Center Abuja.
