The Independent National Electoral Commission says it will begin continuous voter registration exercise in Anambra state from June twenty eight, 2021.

 

The  State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, announced this during Stakeholders Forum on Expansion of Voter Access to Polling Units organized by the Commission in Awka.

 

According to Dr. Orji, the forum became necessary in order to improve quality of electoral processes, adding that some existing Polling Units in the state make it difficult for people to exercise their democratic rights.

 

Speaking at the event, Governor Obiano represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, thanked the Commission for the worthy objectives of organizing the forum, and expressed hope that the outcome will help in achieving improved voting exercise in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

 

In their separate remarks, the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba and the Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters, Barrister Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, described the forum as a way of deepening Democracy in the State and Nigeria at large.

 

The forum had in attendance, representatives of Persons Living with Disabilities, members of the State Executive Council, members of the National and State Assemblies, Security agencies among others.
