Youth Mobilization, Technology and Innovation office in Anambra State has been inaugurated.
The office was established by Governor Willie Obiano in November, last year to serve as a socio-political conglomerate of all youth groups in Anambra State and to ensure that Anambra youths are role models.
Mr Emeka Okonkwo an Engineer is the Director-General of the office.
Correspondent, Daniel Ezeigwe reports that the Youth Mobilization, Technology and Innovation square is a one-storey complex accommodating different offices, a conference hall and other important units.
Inaugurating the complex, Governor Willie Obiano who was represented by the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu said that youth issues have become critical at the moment, prompting the state to invest more in youth empowerment through trainings, skill acquisition and job creation to curb youth-related vices.
Governor Obiano said that the appointment of Mr Okonkwo as the pioneer Director-General of the office is show of immense faith and expectation, noting that the office is not just a centre for cross-fertilization of ideas but also a domain for moral rectitude.
On her part, the Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Professor Theresa Obiekezie, called for more youth involvement in community mobilization, an action that could only be achieved through an identified platform.
Dedicating the office, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Jonas-Benson Okoye said that the establishment of the office was timely, coming at a time when youth restiveness has become a source of national concern, and urged the new Director-General to use his role for the advancement of youth development in Anambra State.
In a speech, the Director-General of Youth Mobilization Technology and Innovation Anambra State, Mr Emeka Okonkwo, praised Governor Obiano for creating the office, stating that it will work for the advancement of youths’ involvement in politics, social re-orientation and technology under a united umbrella.
Mr Okonkwo also pledged to develop a unique leadership model that will capture the aspiration of all Anambra youths.
Some Members of Anambra State House of Assembly, Transition Committee Chairmen, youth leaders of different youth bodies in Anambra State, Archbishop of Onitsha Archdiocese, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke represented by Reverend Father Patrick Ogbunuko, among others attended the event.
