Plans by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to expand voter access to Polling Units in the state will encourage more citizens’ participation in the electoral process.
Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano stated this at a Stakeholders forum organized by the Commission in Awka.
Governor Obiano, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, thanked the Commission for the worthy objectives of organizing the forum, expressing hope that the outcome will help in achieving improved exercise in the forthcoming governorship election in the State.
In their separate remarks, the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Barrister Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, described the forum as a way of deepening Democracy, and recommended similar exercise on a regular basis.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, who announced that Continuous Voter Registration exercise will resume on June twenty-eight, 2021, explained that the forum became necessary in order to improve quality of electoral processes, noting that some existing Polling Units in the state do not make it easy for people to exercise their democratic rights.
