The Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa has warned those trading on the pedestrian bridge at the UNIZIK Temp Site to move away immediately or risk having their wares confiscated.
Venerable Okwuosa, who gave the warning while giving a run-down of the activities of his office in the few weeks, said that trading on the bridge which is basically meant for pedestrians’ crossing over to the other side of the road, is illegal.
Correspondent, Daniel Ezeigwe quotes Venerable Okwuosa as saying that Development Control Officers from his office in collaboration with Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, had constantly cleared the pedestrian bridge of traders and alms seekers, but they keep coming back.
He advised those involved to see the warning as a safety concern, noting that criminal activities could arise from such area while the bridge is taking more burden than is expected.
Venerable Okwuosa added that a task force would be stationed at the bridge to keep away illegal occupants, insisting that making Awka a pristine twenty-first century city is a collective job of everyone.
