The former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor and illustrious son of Anambra State, Professor Charles Soludo has called on youths to participate in politics, with the bigger picture of building a progressive society.

 

Professor Soludo, who made the call while receiving a delegation of the Youths Earnestly Seek Soludo, YESS, at his country home Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area also harped on the need for youths to become vanguards for positive change beyond political affiliations.

Presenting a cheque for two million naira to Professor Soludo, meant for the purchase of APGA Expression of Interest form, the Convener of Youths Earnestly Seek Soludo, YESS, Dr Nelson Omenugha, explained that their reason for such initiative was to hold him accountable if he fails to meet the demands of Ndi Anambra, especially the youths.

 

He noted that politics is no longer business as usual, as Anambra youths are now determined to play a key role in choosing a leader to guarantee better future for the youths and entire State.

 

Thanking the group while receiving the cheque, Professor Soludo expressed belief that the society would get better if the youths take ownership and participate actively in all the system that contribute to sustainable development, including politics.

He noted that beyond elections, there is need to rebuilt the society from the root, change orientation and mindset of people, even as he identified youths as the major players in the mission for positive change, adding that youths engagement in politics should be driven by positive ideologies.

 

On his part, the State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, stated that choosing a leader should be based on character, integrity, and vision, urging YESS to keep up the good work of contributing towards building a better society

 

In a vote of thanks, Mr. Charles Ojukwu, a UK-based medical doctor, who thanked Professor Soludo for giving them reflective exposition on what politics should be, maintained that the interest of the people should override every personal gains when it comes to electing a leader, urging the youths to shun politics of immediate gains, nepotism and sentiment, and get actively involved in building a more progressive and secure society.

 

Mr. Nwankwo Emmanuel, the YESS Secretary explained the achievements of the group and what they plan to achieve in the future for the greater good of the State

 

The group also presented an album of their past achievements and a policy document of youths’ expectations known as ‘a pact with Soludo’.
