The remains of Late Chief Eric Nwankwor-Okam has been laid to rest at his county home, Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka local government area of Anambra state.
His journey to eternity began with a burial service at St. Mark’s Anglican Church Enugwu-Agidi.
The Late Chief Eric Nwankwor-Okam who died at the age of ninety-seven was a devoted Christian and philanthropist who contributed immensely to evangelism and humanity.
Until his death, he was father in-law to the immediate past Managing Director of Fidelity Bank PLC, Mr Nnamdi Okonkwo.
In his condolence message, Governor Willie Obiano who spoke through the Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Udu said that the state and Nation have lost a sage, as the deceased contributed immensely to the betterment of the society and called on the family to immortalize their father by sustaining his good legacies.
On his part, a Former Governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi acknowledged the exemplary lifestyle of the late Nwankwor-Okam and prayed God to give his family the fortitude to bear the loss.
In a sermon during the burial service, the Archbishop, Province of Enugu, Most Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma who said that death is inevitable for every mortal, reiterated the need for people to be celebrated while alive, as a way to acknowledge their legacies and contributions in the society.
Some children of the deceased, Dr. Chike-Nkemjika Okam, Professor Ifeoma Ulasi and Dr. Adaora Anika described their late father as an icon, mentor and a man of style, who saw the importance of education as a basic tool for human empowerment.
Some of the dignitaries who attended the event were, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nkem Okeke, Senator Victor Umeh, Anambra State Commissioner for Housing, Architect Michael Okonkwo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr. Uche Nworah Dr. Innocent Chukwuma of Innoson Group, among others.
Cultural displays and condolence visits by in-laws, friends and well-wishers formed the highpoint of the burial ceremony.
