Eleven more widows have been empowered under the monthly Widow’s Empowerment programme of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Open Heaven Parish Amechi, Nnewi South Council Area, which brings to thirty-two, number of the beneficiaries of the initiative.
The programme sponsored by Nelviah Foundation and powered by Evangelist Winifred Okafor, gave the beneficiaries twenty thousand naira interest free loan to be repaid within one year and also paid school fees for about sixty students both in secondary and tertiary schools.
Correspondent Paul Ezeoke reports the foundation also shared cooked foods and drinks to other widows and extended food, drinks and packs of noodles to some elderly widows at their various homes.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the programme, Pastor Mrs. Hope Unaka said the initiative was to provide spiritual and physical food for the widows, as well as empower them to have sources of income and become self-reliant and urged them to put the money to good use to achieve the purpose of the scheme and anchor their faith in Jesus Christ and remain committed to work of God to attracted more blessings.
Pastor Mrs. Unaka urged children and youths to remain dedicated to their studies and avoid acts capable of truncating their future.
During a skill acquisition session, a widow, Mrs. Ifeoma Oguajulu taught participants on how to produce and market peanuts.
In their separate reactions, some of the beneficiaries including Mrs. Agnes Nwosu, Mrs. Blessing Uche and Mrs. Virginia Unaegbu, said the programme has touched their lives in different ways.
The programme featured prayers, testimonies and feeding of the participants.
