Omor – Anaku Conflict: Anambra Assembly Speaker Okafor Visits Affected Communities

In his efforts to enthrone lasting peace between Anaku and Omor Communities, Ayamelum Local Government Area, the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Right Honourable Uche Okafor has led Ayamelum Leaders of Thought to visit the affected communities after the crisis that rocked them.

when the ABS visited the area, it was a bizarre to behold the scene of the wanton destructions within Anaku and Omor Communities.

The affected communities especially Anaku where the local government headquarters is sited was a ghost of itself as no single youth was seen in the area as the scars of the mayhem could be felt such that business activity of any sort was totally suspended.

Addressing elders of the two communities at a meeting held at the palace of the Traditional Ruler of Omor, Igwe Christopher Chidume, Right Honourable Okafor commended the two communities for answering their call and assured them that their request for boundary demarcation would be addressed by the State Boundary Committee soon.

Right Honourable Okafor, who is also the member representing Ayamelum Constituency, asked his constituents to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of any eventuality as the Leaders of Thought will meet with the governor on Tuesday, expecting that the curfew would be lifted.

On his part, the chairman, Ayamelum Leaders of Thought, Chief Tony Chinedu urged Ndichie of Anaku to remain peaceful and calm their youths, even as he assured them that Ayamelum Leaders of Thought has the capacity to resolve the matter.

In his remark, Igwe Chidume said the meeting would yield peace between Omor and Anaku Communities through a covenant to renew their brotherly love.

Also speaking, the former President General of Anaku Town Union, Mr. Peter Onuorah said that government should endeavour to determine the boundary between the two communities for ever lasting peace.

In their contributions, the spokesman for Anaku Community, Mr. Oguguo Onuorah, the member representing Oyi and Ayamelum Federal Constituency, Honourable Vincent Ofumelu and others sought for peace in the area and asked the elders to call their children to order.
