A medical expert, Dr. Tochukwu Mbachi says over three hundred and fifty million people are living with hepatitis B and C, globally.
Dr. Mbachi made this known at a one day hepatitis management and treatment lecture, organized by the Rotary Club of Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University held in Awka.
The medical practitioner who is also a Rotarian noted that hepatitis remains one of the silent killer diseases in the World.
He revealed that there are viral and non-viral hepatitis, even as he pointed out that unprotected sexual intercourse, drug abuse and excessive intake of alcohol can cause hepatitis.
Dr. Mbachi made it clear that the awareness campaign is one of the cardinal objectives of rotary which is disease prevention and treatment and urged participants at the programme to use the knowledge garnered at the event to sensitize and educate others to minimize the spread of the deadly virus in the society.
The chairman on the occasion, who is Anambra state Director, National Orientation Agency, Barrister Charles Nworji commended the president, Rotary Club of Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University rlTotarian Abuchi Nwozor for a job well done and urged him not to relent.
Earlier, the President, Rotary Club of Awka, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Rotarian Nwozor, thanked members of the club and other participants for coming, and noted that the programme is meant to enlighten people on the dangers of hepatitis and how to prevent its spread.
He assured that the Club will continue to organize programmes and workshops that will uplift humanity at all times.
