Ozubulu the headquarters of Ekwusigo Local Government Area stood still last weekend when the body of the first Chairman of the Local Government Area, the late Dr. Michael Obi and that of his wife, Mrs Elizabeth arrived the area for the final rites of their journey to eternity.

Their remains were received by past and present Chairmen, councilors, permanent secretaries, friends, associates, family members and sympathizers from within and outside Ekwusigo Local Government Area who gathered to pay their last respects.

Correspondent Chibuzo Obidike reports that this story of love until death do them part between  the late Dr Obi of Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area  and his wife, Mrs Elizabeth to death was capture in the manner of their demise.

After the demise of the former renowned local government administrator at the age of eighty following a brief illness in January, his wife who was seventy-two at the time on hearing of her husband’s death broke down and joined him twenty days after.

For the family they left behind this story of love made them not to leave anything to chances in ensuring they give their beloved parents a befitting burial and farewell.

The exotic decorations, ambience created by different music groups and organizations who were on ground at the family compound for the burial spoke volumes of the impacts left by Dr Obi who also retired from Civil Service as a Permanent Secretary and Mrs Elizabeth who rose to the Directorate Position at the Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission before retired.

In a burial Service for the deceased, the Anglican Bishop of  Mbamili Diocese, the Right Reverend Obiora Uzochukwu, reminded the gathering once again that death is inevitable for all mortals and as such Christians should worry about their deeds while alive as all will be judged according to their lifestyle while on Earth.

The Anglican Prelate described the deceased popularly called “Ichie Ezenwa” and wife as people of strong faith whose evidence is written in sands of time.

The Transition Committee Chairman of Ekwusigo Local Government Area, Mr Austin Enendu accompanied by the leadership of the council area to pay him last respect.

In his tribute at the burial service, the Traditional Ruler of the community Igwe Dan Udoji who spoke through a cabinet member Prince Chinedu Nsofor and a member of the church Mrs. Onyebuchi described the deceased couple as brave personalities who were nonetheless epitomes of humility, adding that the late Dr Obi sowed noble and fruitful seeds during his lifetime, praying fervently for their soul to rest in the bosom of the Lord.

On her part, one of the daughters in-law, Mrs. Onyinye Obi said it was an honour for her to have shared a memorable time and tutelage under her parents in law as they have been great instruments to her success.

In their appreciation messages, the children of the deceased, Messers Onochie and Anene Obi said their parents were unifying factors, bonds and bridges that connected the old and the young, the rich and the poor, the informed and the uninformed.

There were condolence visits by in-laws, friends and sympathizers.
