The tenth Chief Emeka Anyaoku’s lecture series on good governance has ended with a call on leaders to form “political order” that can help curb corruption, ensure accountability in governance and guarantee sustained nation building.
The event, with the theme: “Leadership and Good Governance in Nigeria”, was organised by Youth Affairs International Foundation, a non-governmental organization with vision to create new breed of future leaders with keen sense of present societal challenges, as well as novel solutions and approach to create needed change.
Guest speakers at the event, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, Professors Hope Eghagha and Kingsley Moghalu, while proffering solutions to challenges of Nigeria’s sustainable development, harped on the need to, among other things, restructure the country to end secessionist agitations.
Professor Moghalu, while speaking on “Leadership and Challenges of Development in Nigeria”, said a political order” will help achieve good governance, which will in turn, be accountable, all-inclusive and have positive effects on the people.
Speaking to the ABS, the National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo, who commended Governor Willie Obiano for preparing the youths to takeover leadership positions, through strategic involvement in the affairs of his administration, noted that the event is an eye-opener for aspiring leaders at all levels, and called on youths to register and participate actively in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election, without being used for odd jobs.
Representative of Youth Affairs International Foundation and Vice-President, Students Union Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Miss Chisom Ukoha, who highlighted importance of good governance, challenged political leaders to create jobs, and prioritize youth empowerment.
Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha reports that the event, held at Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, has the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, as the Chief host, with the Vice President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okekeogene, Anambra State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Emeka Udodeme, the Traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, members of the State Executive Council and Media Executives, including Dr. Uche Nworah of the ABS among others in attendance.
