The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Onitsha Stake, has embarked on 2021 All African Service Project at General Hospital, Onitsha, where they did thorough clean up exercise.
According to Onitsha Stake President of the Church, Mr. Nzegwu Nebolisa, All African Service Project is a yearly programme in August, designed by the Church to carry out service to humanity across Africa.
President Nebolisa said this year, the Church decided to clean up the Onitsha General Hospital environment, as another way of creating awareness on cleanliness and making Christ known to the people.
He harped on the need for people to keep their environment clean, plant trees and flowers, and shun the idea of leaving everything for Government.
On his part, the Obosi Second Ward Bishop, Gilbert Okorie-Emmanuel, who noted that service to fellow human being is service to God, urged people to sacrifice their time in serving their fellow human beings, as it helps in lessening ones burden.
A member of the Church, Mrs Ifeoma Enemuo noted that since cleanliness is next to godliness, people should maintain a clean environment, adding that Christianity is not just preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ but by rendering service to humanity.
She advised mothers to inculcate in their children, especially the female ones, the act of keeping environment clean to enable them take up responsibilities.
In an interview with the ABS, a little boy of about four years, Humphrey Moses, who was spotted assisting in carting away refuse, expressed joy for joining in the exercise, and advised fellow children to always be mindful of their environment.
Correspondent Oggorchukwu Oranu reports that the Church members took time to evacuate refuse, sweep the compound and cut grasses.
