The Chairperson, National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Anambra State chapter, Mrs. Edith Onwuka, has identified shortage of Nurses in Public healthcare facilities as one of critical issues affecting the overall healthcare delivery in the State.
Staff reporter, Njideka Okoye, reports that while speaking at the ongoing Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria Examiner’s Workshop in Awka, Mrs. Onwuka appealed to the State Government to look into the matter, to ensure that people continue to receive adequate nursing services in the State.
Earlier, the Chairman, Governing Board of Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Professor Josephat Ogbuagu, commended State Government’s efforts in the health sector, describing Nursing profession as God’s gift to the society.
Welcoming participants from across the federation at the event, the Traditional ruler of Mbaukwu, Igwe Peter Anaugwu, stated that the role of Nurses in human life cannot be over emphasised.
The Chairman, Board of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Adosede Bola-Ofi, represented by the Director of Nursing, Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Veronica Okolo, appreciated the Council for their commitment, credibility and responsiveness in delivering their mandate.
She noted that the workshop provides opportunity for one on one interaction with the Council on challenges and suggestions towards improving the synergy between educators and clinicians.
Performances by student Nurses formed the highpoint of the event.
