The newly constructed Umueze road Nimo in Njikoka Council Area has been inaugurated.
The about one kilometer road, constructed and donated by a philanthropist, Prince Anthony Okpala, links many villages in the community and has drainage system on both sides with asphalt overlay.
Speaking at the event, the Senator representing Anambra Central at the National Assembly, Mrs Uche Ekwunife, commended Prince Okpala for his sense of patriotism in investing to upgrade infrastructure in his community, noting that it is a demonstration of think-home-philosophy.
Senator Ekwunife said it is important for individuals and organizations to be alive to their civic and corporate social responsibilities as Government cannot develop all communities alone.
The philanthropist, Prince Okpala, said he was motivated to embark on the road project by desire to impact positively on the lives of the people of his community, and disclosed that he has also executed solar streetlight project in the area, adding that he awarded the contract for the project to an indigene of the community.
He explained that he was trying to toe the footsteps of the Traditional ruler of the town, Igwe Maxi Oliobi, and his late father, Chief Okpala whom he recalled used their wealth to contribute towards community development and became role models members of the community are now trying to emulate.
Prince Okpala pointed out that the people of Anambra State are known for enterprising spirit and sense of industry, urging them to remain united and join hands to make the State great.
In his reaction, a member of the community, Prince Tony Ezeimo, extolled Prince Okpala for his goodwill and philanthropic gesture to the community, and recalled that he equally executed other philanthropic activities in the area, which he noted were practical demonstration of Aku – luo- uno philosophy, which youths should emulate to build a progressive society.
The ceremony was graced by many dignitaries, including the Traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Oliobi, and his Omasi community in Ayamelum Council Area counterpart, Igwe Benjamin Okeji.
