The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Basic Education has called for increment of the overhead cost for secondary and primary schools across the state to enable auditors of education zones discharge their duties effectively.
House of Assembly Correspondent Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the chairman of the committee, Honourable Ejike Okechukwu made the call when the committee met with internal auditors and bursars of all the education zones in Anambra State at the State House of Assembly Awka.
Honourable Okechukwu explained that their meeting with the auditors and bursars was based on improving the standard of education in the state and to admonish them against the unpleasant roles they play, which frustrates the efforts of the state government towards uplifting the standard of education in the state.
The legislator stated that the committee after meeting with various stakeholders in education sector saw the need for the state government to increase the running cost of secondary and primary schools across the state to enhance optimum performance on the part of zonal auditors.
A member of the committee, Honourable Noble Igwe, who expressed joy over the performance of Anambra State in WAEC and JAMB examinations maintained that increment of the running cost of primary and secondary schools will sustain unprecedented performance of the state in education.
In a vote of thanks, the Acting Director Accounts, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Mr. Tochukwu Agina, who commended the Anambra State House of Assembly for discharging its duties without fear or favour, assured that all their observations about zonal auditors will be addressed.
