The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Barrister Ifeatu Obiokoye, has said the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and the people of the State, will reject the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to use its facility in Owerri, the Imo State capital, for storage of non-sensitive materials meant for the November six governorship election in Anambra State.
Speaking with Journalists in Awka, Barrister Obiokoye said INEC will face strong resistance if it fails to reverse its decision, alleging that the idea was put in place to rig the polls in favour of a particular political party.
The Governor’s aide, who recalled that following rumours that some ad-hoc staff and returning officers for the Anambra election were being recruited from the Imo State University, a letter was sent out expressing rejection of the State or any other APC State involving actively in the Anambra election, explained that in the next few days, all the political parties taking part in the Anambra election, except APC, will sign a communiqué, which will be forwarded to INEC.
But citing the destruction of INEC office in Anambra as its reason, the Commission, through its national Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, had announced that it would use INEC office in Imo State to organize movement of non-sensitive materials for the Anambra governorship election.
Barrister Obiokoye, who advised INEC to use the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, office in the State to store it’s materials if reasons given for the choice of Imo State are cogent, expressed worry that for more than four months after INEC office was destroyed in Anambra, the decision to use Imo State is coming to the public domain for the first time, describing it as mischievous.
