The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has asked its staff to be firm and fair in their dealings with political parties and candidates.

The commission also informed its new appointees to adhere strictly to the provisions of the law.

Chairman of the Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, made the call while receiving the three new National Commissioners sworn in by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Commissions Headquarters, in Abuja.

The National Commissioners are Dr Baba Bila, Professor Sani Adam and Professor Abdullahi Abdu.

Professor Sa’idu Ahmad, of the Bayero University, Kano, was also sworn in as Resident Electoral Commissioner at the event.

Professor Ahmad from Jigawa State was deployed to Zamfara State as the Resident Electoral Commissioner.

Professor Yakubu reminded them that in discharging their responsibilities, Nigeria and Nigerians must always come first and they must abide by their oaths of office to defend the choice made by Nigerians in all elections and continue to protect the sanctity of the vote without which democratic governance becomes meaningless.

Speaking on the November sixth Governorship Election in Anambra State Professor Yakubu, said the Commission will install a mechanism to disable and track the new Bimodal Voter Accreditation System device to prevent theft by hoodlums.
