It was a celebration of life as the remains of the late Madam Regina Okeke were laid to eternal rest in her husband’s compound at Etti Village, Nanka, Orumba North Council Area.
The burial ceremony was attended by family members, the clergy, the religious, Nanka Catholic Community and distinguished personalities among others.
Correspondent Queen Anigbogu reports that the late Madam Okeke, who died at the age of one hundred and ten, was the mother of the Vice-president of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene.
The burial Mass, officiated by Bishop Peter Okpaleke of Ekwulobia Catholic Diocese at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish Nkwoagu Nanka, also had in attendance, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafo of Awka Catholic Diocese.
In a homily, a visiting priest, Reverend Father Boniface Chiegboka, attributed the deceased longevity to the peace, love and cooperation in the Okeke’s family.
He charged the faithful to strive to live righteously at all times, receive and accept every condition that may come their way even as they trust God for a better tomorrow.
Speaking with the ABS, the sons of the deceased, Mr. Clement Okeke and Chief Okeke-Ogene, promised to uphold the bond their mother entrenched in the family as well as maintain a strong united family that will never be divided by any circumstance.
For the daughters, Mrs. Catherine Nwankwo and Lady Maria Okeke, the daughters-in-law, Mrs. Victoria and Lolo Ngozi Okeke, the kindness of their mother and mother in-law, was unequalled.
In his condolence message, the former President General, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, ASATU, Chief Alex Onukwube, noted that the late Madam Okeke has done her best and has gone to be with the Lord and urged her family to remain united.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion were the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, former Governors of the state, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife and Mr. Peter Obi, the member representing Orumba North in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Emeka Aforka, traditional ruler of Agulu, Igwe Innocent Obodoako and his Mbaukwu counterpart, Igwe Peter Anugwu among many others.
Interment , dances and condolence visits featured during the ceremony.
