The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has presented the Electronic Voter Register, for the November sixth Governorship Election in Anambra State.

The event held in Awka was attended by INEC officials from Abuja and Awka, security agencies, political party chairmen and secretaries among others.

Staff reporter Njideka Okoye reports that in making the presentation the Director Voter Registry of the Commission, Mr Iro Gambo represented by Mr Olatunde Gafar explained that the Commission resumed the conduct of Continuous Voters Registration nationwide in June 2021 with on-line pre-registration and physical  registration which commenced in July 2021 and further devolved to Registration Areas level in Anambra from thirtieth August to fifth September 2021.

He urged Ndi Anambra and political parties to always adhere to the Commission’s guidelines and the laid down safety protocols on COVID-19 pandemic.

On Technology innovations for the conduct of the Governorship Election, the Director Information and Communication Technology, Chief Chidi Nwafor represented by Messers Abinbola Oladunjoye and Ama Agu stated that INEC is committed to improving voter registration process, noting that they are now using facial and finger print for re-duplication process through biometric identification system.

Earlier in his address, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra state, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji noted that the presentation was in fulfillment of media requirement noting that they produced the voter register in digital electronic form and handed over to either the Chairman or secretary of political parties.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Sir Norbert Obi, that of People’s Democratic party, PDP Chief Ndubisi Nwobu and State secretary All Progressives Congress APC, Mr. Chukwuma Agufugo expressed happiness over the presentation.
