Anambra State House of Assembly has condemned the statement credited to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami SAN that the possibility of declaring a state of emergency on Anambra State cannot be ruled out.
The House passed the resolution following a motion of urgent public importance introduced in that regard by the majority leader, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor during yesterday’s plenary in Awka.
The House called on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mallam Malami to tender an unreserved apology to Anambra State immediately over his unwarranted suggestion of a State of Emergency on Anambra State.
The House also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack Mallam Malami as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice if he fails to tender an apology to Anambra State or resigns.
The House urged President Muhammadu Buhari to reinforce police and security operatives for the protection of the good people of Anambra State.
Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Uche Okafor who condemned the statement credited to Mallam Malami in its entirety read out the resolution of while the lawmakers supported it through a voice vote.
In their reactions, the Deputy Speaker, Dr. Paschal Agbodike and the Chairman, House committee on Information and Culture, Mr Okechukwu Okoye also described the comments of Mallam Malami as uncalled for and urged President Buhari to deploy more security personnel to Anambra State to safeguard the state.
Meanwhile, the Speaker, Right Honourable Uche Okafor has unbehalf of the State legislature felicitated with the wife of the Governor Dr Ebelechukwu Obiano on her birthday celebration.
Right Honourable Okafor described Dr. Obiano as a virtuous woman who has used her pet project “Caring Family Enhancement Initiative to uplift the living condition of the less privileged persons in the state and prayed God to continue to strengthen her and grant her more years ahead.
The House later observed a minute silence in honour of the Late House of Assembly Official Photographer, Mr. Romanus Ayadinuno.
