The Anglican Bishop of Afikpo Diocese, the Right Reverend Paul Udogu has marked his fiftieth birthday ceremony with a service at his country home, Igboezunu Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.

 

The special service, held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Igboezunu Aguleri, was graced by high profile personalities from both religious and political circles.

 

Correspondent Blessing Dennis reports that the event attended by Governor Willie Obiano was presided over by the Primate of Church of Nigeria, the Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba, assisted by the Archbishop Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, Bishop of Niger West Diocese, Right Reverend Johnson Ekwe, APGA candidate in the November six gubernatorial election, Professor Chukwuma Soludo and his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, among others.

In a sermon, the Archbishop of Bendel Province and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese, Most Reverend Dr Cyril Odutemu whose message centered on giving thanks to God, noted that God treasures sincere thanksgiving and that it is only when one appreciates God for one favour that he can complete the rest.

 

Most Reverend Odutemu who also prayed God to grant the celebrant longer and healthier life, advised clergymen to learn to live uprightly so as to enjoy longevity.

 

In his remarks, the celebrant, Right Reverend Udogu thanked members of the clergy and dignitaries who honoured his golden jubilee birthday anniversary and book presentation, and also urged them to keep their love and trust in God, as his mercies endure forever.

Speaking shortly after the service, the wife of the Bishop, Mrs Blessing Udogu appreciated God for blessings of life and prayed God to keep shining his light of grace and divine sustenance upon her and her husband.

 

In their separate remarks, the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi and the traditional ruler of Umueri, Igwe Ben Emeka, said that attaining half a century on earth was worth giving thanks to God, and described Bishop Udogu as God’s true servant who has contributed immensely to growth of the church and larger society.

 

Presentation and launch of the book by the celebrant, cutting of birthday cakes, and presentation of gifts to the celebrant climaxed the event.
