The Association of Pay Direct Contractors has called for proper sensitization of the public on the electronic system of payment ofsanitation levy to facilitate quick disposal of refuse in the state.
House of Assembly Correspondent,Chukwuemeka Modilim reports that the Association made the call after its meeting with the Anambra State House of Assembly committee on Internally Generated Revenue at the Anambra State House of Assembly complex in Awka.
The Association which spoke through its Secretary, Mr. Ugochukwu Udeora explained that the new arrangement which was introduced this year by Anambra State Government involves payment of all sanitation levies directly into government coffers with ANSSID number.
They observed that the people are not responding fast to the new method as many do not have ANSSID number, while some of those who have it have not adjusted to it, a situation they said does not encourage them to perform their duties efficiently.
They stressed the need for sensitization of the people on the essence of the pay direct system of sanitation levy or government can empower them to collect sanitation levies and remit into the state government account for the benefit of the state.
Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the committee, Mr Nonso Okafor revealed that the meeting was part of ways to improve the internally generated revenue of the State.
