Saint Mary the Virgin Convent, Ufuma is one of the schools inherited from the old Awka Diocese where Aguata Diocese was carved out on September 4 2005. Apart from the provision of these facilities, the Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry has been assisting the Diocese in the provision of infrastructure and equipment in other schools owned by the Diocese.
At the All Saints Seminary, Ekwulobia, established by the Aguata Diocese in 2008 after it’s inauguration, the Women’s Ministry under its pioneer president, Dame Nkediniruka Efobi, now late, contributed in the construction of some storey buildings in the school to make it a center of Academic excellence.
All these support are being sustained by the current president, Mrs Chinyere Hulda Ezeofor (Nnechukwunyere), wife of the Bishop. Mrs Ezeofor, who became the president of Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry on April 3, 2018 following the translation of her husband as the second Bishop of the Diocese, has continued to show the people the stuff she is made of.
Mrs Ezeofor has continued to introduce Programmes that impact positively on the Members of the Women’s Guild, Mother’s Union and Girls Guild. Some of the Programmes include, series of prayer summits, sponsoring them to various skills acquisition Programmes, giving them revolving interest-free loans among others. Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry, under Mrs Ezeofor, introduced Widows Commission where names of Widows are easily collected for assistance during the Widows Day celebration.
Since Mrs Ezeofor came on board, she has been carrying along the Vice Presidents of various archdeaconries, who are the wives of Archdeacons. Members of the Anglican Children’s Ministry (ACM) always look up to the Christmas party and moral lessons Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry normally provides for them.
Apart from its support to schools and colleges in Aguata Diocese, the Women’s Ministry, under Mrs Chinyere Ezeofor, has consolidated on its achievements and is breaking new grounds.
The Lampada water set up by the Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry at Aguluezechukwu is a household name, which many people, both far and near, are booking in advance for various ceremonies.
To boost Agriculture and to help in checking hunger in the society, Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry established a garri processing factory at Okpeze in Orumba North Local Government Area, which has offered employment to many.
Under Real estate development, Aguata Diocesan Women’s Ministry secured some lands at the Archbishop Onyemelukwe Estate at Ufuma for the building of some structures to reduce the housing needs of the people. It also drilled a borehole at the Diocesan hospital, Igboukwu as well as Saint Catherine’s Comprehensive College, Nanka respectively.
The Ministry has continued to live up to expectations in its role in both the church and larger society. The debt people owe them is support through the provision of fund for the expansion of its work to humanity.
As for the facilities put in place by the Women of Aguata Diocese, which will be dedicated tomorrow, lovers of education, education stakeholders and the public are invited. Aguata Diocese has continued to invest in education because education is the only currency for the future. Aguata Diocese Lampada Christi!
