In a bid to ensure free, fair and credible election in Anambra come November 6, a Non Governmental Organization known as Civil Society Committee for Anti Fraud Election Security, has opened a Situation room where all the events that happens before, during and after the election would be reported.

 

It is the group’s way of monitoring and proffering solutions to insecurity and apathy that tends to surround the election.

 

The creation of the situation room took place in Awka during a joint meeting of members of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra council and members of Civil Society Organization.

 

Correspondent Ngozi Obileri was part of the meeting and reports that the meeting also featured discussions on the contributions of journalists towards the success of the election as they brainstormed on the way forward.

 

Addressing the gathering, the convener Comrade Ken Iyere said that having seen and heard the insecurity challenges facing the state especially in this critical election time, everyone should be concerned so that Anambra does not fall into the hands of evil doers.

 

Comrade Iyere said for the NGO, the means to achieving the goal is by setting up a situation room which would be monitored by national and international organizations towards a credible election.

 

He challenged journalists in Anambra to as watchdogs of the society, use their position to create an enabling environment for all to participate in the election through their reportage, as he said the role of the media towards the growth and development of every society is vital.

 

Some notable individuals especially of Anambra extraction mostly based abroad made remarks during the meeting through zoom.

 

In his remark, the leader of World Igbo in Tennessee, Professor Anthony Ejiofor, frowned at the manner in which the APC is bullying and buying people over all in a ploy to turn Anambra to APC state and adviced Ndi Anambra to resist any plan by anyone no matter how highly placed to push them around or instill fear in them so that they can have their way through rigging.

The chairman Igbo World Assembly, California, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze who is also the traditional prime minister of Abagana said in his remarks and I quote”, we want free and fair election in Anambra, we want an educated person with good work experience, Anambra is not for sale, Anambra is not like other states, Anambra is a home for great individuals like the late Chinua Achebe, the late Dora Akunyili, the late Zik of Africa, the late Chike Obi ‘, the late Kenneth Dike, the late Alex Ekwueme, Former Governor Peter Obi, Governor Willie Obiano to mention but a few, and therefore cannot be messed up by any APC or machinations of evil people” , end of quote.

 

A onetime Minister of Women Affairs, Iyom Josephine Anini in her own remarks, condemned the killings and described it as an abomination, and called on the perpetrators to have a rethink, as she said that human blood is sacred and should be seen as such.

 

Iyom Josephine made it clear that all Nigerians should rise up against any evil plan to take over Anambra by force as according to her, Anambra cannot fall into the hands of a wrong leader otherwise, Nigeria will plunge into eternal darkness.

 

Others Mr Ken Robinson, leader of Pan Niger Delta Forum, and Ifeanyi Obute, president of Anambra indigenes in Germany, called on everyone, male and female to ensure they go out to vote without fear of molestation on Election Day as they reiterated that Anambra is not for sale.

 

The theme of the meeting is towards “Enforcing a peaceful and credible electoral process”.
