As stakeholders count down to the November sixth Anambra governorship election, Ndi Anambra have been asked to be mindful of the choice they make in the exercise.
Ekwi Ajide of ABS, Abuja Bureau reports that the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who gave the charge at a special meeting of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, said INEC is determined to proceed with the Anambra governorship election as scheduled.
According to him, security agencies have assured of a secure environment, safety and protection of materials, personnel, voters, accredited observers and the media during the election, adding that deployment of non-sensitive materials and training of personnel for the election have virtually been concluded.
The INEC boss urged citizens and politicians to play their parts in ensuring a free, fair, credible and peaceful exercise.
For the co-chairman, Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, Bagana Monguno, having a free, fair and credible election in Anambra is another all-important national assignment; hence it is important for the implementers, as well as those who are expected to vote, to do their best in ensuring success of the exercise.
He said the Committee will do its best to ensure that no one is denied the right to exercise civic duty in an atmosphere devoid of rancor, apprehension, tension, and all those factors that can lead to suspicion or violence.
Mr. Monguno cautioned those who may wish to use any means or methods to destabilize the Anambra election to have a re-think, adding that law enforcement agencies, though mandated to operate in accordance with the requirements of their profession, will not allow any act that can lead to security breaches.
