Nigerian Medical AssociationAwka zone has ended its weeklong Physicians week and award presentation with thanks giving and rededication mass at Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish in Awka.

Correspondent Theophilus Ukoha reports that the 2021 Physicians week has its theme as Nigeria in the COVID-19 Era: Health systems strengthening for National Security and prosperity.

Speaking at the rededication mass the Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association Awka Zone, Dr Kanayo Onalu, said medical doctors are critical stakeholders in national development especially the health needs of the populace, attributing the physicians week and rededication mass as a way to appreciate God in taking care of medical doctors round the year.

He therefore urged all to have confidence in the health care providers especially during this COVID-19 pandemic era.

Earlier in a Homily the presiding priest of Saint Thomas Aquinas Parish Awka, Reverend Father Emmanuel Umezinwa, charged the doctors to live up to their oath of saving lives and avoid being money conscious as they treat illnesses while God heals.

Reverend Father Umezinwa also urged the doctors to inject confidence in the minds of the people as regardsCOVID-19 vaccine as many are still in the dark concerning the authenticity of the vaccine and COVID-19 pandemic.

In his address the President Nigerian Medical Association, Professor Innocent Ujah, said the health sector has suffered monumental losses following the period of COVID-19 pandemic and charged all to use the event to remember all health care providers who paid supreme price on line of duty in saving the lives of Nigerians who were infected with the disease.

In an interview the Chairman of the 2021 physician’s week organizing committee, Dr Emmanuel Umenweke, thanked all who contributed their time and resources to make the event a huge success.

Highpoints of the re-dedication service were presentation of gifts and prayers.
