Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, in collaboration with Anambra State Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, has flagged off the 2021/2022 orientation programme for new and transferred students of public and public mission secondary schools in Onitsha, Ogidi and Otuocha zones, respectively.

 

The event which was held at Eastern Academy Onitsha, Saint John Science and Technical College Alor, and Father Joseph’s Memorial Secondary School Aguleri, was aimed at equipping the students with knowledge that would enable them succeed academically and become self-reliant on graduation.

Correspondent, Emmanuel Okonkwo tells reports thathLe 2021/2022 orientation ceremony which has its theme as “Education for Self-Reliance”, and sub-themes as “School Rules and Regulations”, “Good Study Habits”, and “Deviant Behaviours Among Students”, was attended by selected students from public and public mission secondary schools, and teachers in the three education zones.

 

Addressing each gathering, the Chairman Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Awka, Lady Ifeoma Okaro, explained that the orientation is one of the annual guidance and counseling programmes designed to equip and familiarize the new and transferred students with their new school environment, and also to get the new students adjust to their new environment psychologically, academically, morally, mentally, socially and physically.

 

Lady Okaro while emphasizing the need for all hands to be on deck in the repositioning of the state’s education sector, called on parents and guardians to complement the efforts of present Anambra state government in the sector by providing their children and wards with required textbooks and other necessary materials, and to often check their academic performances whenever they return from school.

In a remark, the Director and State Coordinator Guidance and Counselling Services PPSSC Headquarters, Awka, Mrs Eucharia Eriken, encouraged students to pay attention to skill acquisition apart from their academic works, in order to survive in present day society.

Member In charge of PPSSC Otuocha Zone, Mr Joe Enemuo, and Zonal Director ASUBEB Onitsha, Lady Eugenia Okeke tasked the students to avoid bad friends, be focused, and abide by the school rules and regulations, as the future of the society lies in their hands.

 

They commended Governor Willie Obiano led administration for investing heavily in the education sector, which according to them has showcased the state to the world in various ways.

 

The orientation programme is also holding simultaneously today in Aguata, Awka and Nnewi zones, and will hold in school levels at Aguata, Awka and Nnewi zones on Tuesday, 9th November, 2021, and at Ogidi, Onitsha, and Otuocha zones, on Wednesday, 10th November, 2021.
