The Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke has expressed optimism that Saint Charles Borromew College of Nursing Sciences, Onitsha will soon become one of the best in the country.

Most Reverend Okeke stated this during the matriculation and capping ceremony of set 2020 of the college held at the school matriculation ground.

The Archbishop who maintained that the pioneer students of the college got one hundred percent success in their external examination, said combination of hardworking students, dedicated teachers and enabling environment produces excellent institution.

He further disclosed that some universities in Europe and America are currently        discussing with them to take best five students to conclude their studies there while assuring the college his support and prayers.

The Manager, College of Nursing Sciences, Saint Charles Borromew Specialist Hospital, Onitsha, Reverend Father Fidelis Nwanze announced that Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has awarded the college full accreditation status with annual intake of one hundred students based on the structure, manpower and instructional materials on ground.

Reverend Father Nwanze solicited support from the government to enable them erect male hostel and thanked the Archbishop for standing behind them and others who contributed to the success story of the college.

In a welcome address, Mr.Basil Okonta who stood in for the provost said the college has recorded tremendous achievements since its inception in 2017,stressing that they work towards making the college number one choice of Nursing education globally adding that more than twenty students of the college are beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme of Afreka Humanitarian Foundation, Hungary.

The 2020 set representative  David Egwuatu in an address, expressed gratitude to God that they crossed the hurdles of the introductory course which lasted for six months appealing for school bus and new hostel for boys while the chairman on the occasion, Chief Obiora Okonkwo lauded the Archbishop for  transforming the Archdiocese and called for the support of all towards the growth of the college.

Dr. Anthonia Chinwuba from Department of Nursing Sciences, University of Nigeria presented a paper on ” Promoting Quality Outcomes in Nursing and Midwifery Education and Practice Through Mentorship.

Co-ordinator, Health Services of Onitsha Archdiocese, Very Reverend Father Basil Ekwunife, Chief Executive Officer of Saint Charles Borromew Specialist Hospital, Reverend Father Izunna Okafor, Mrs Stella Ekweozor representing Director of Nursing Services, Anambra State among other dignitaries were present during the event.
