As the dry season gradually sets in, the Director Anambra State Fire Service, Engineer Martin Agbili has advised the residents of the State to embark on early weeding of grasses in their surroundings.

He said the step will help reduce the impact and spread when there is a fire incident.

Correspondent Chibuzor Obidike had a chat with the Chief Fire Fighter in the state and  reports that Engineer Agbili who stated this in Awka, said that early cleanup of overgrown grasses around houses, business places and markets is the first precautionary measure which should be taken by all before the arrival of harmattan season.

According to the Anambra State Chief Fire Fighter, residents should take care of  their environment to prevent loss of lives and property.

Engineer Agbili urged companies, markets and other establishments in the State to reach out to the agency for a fire readiness audit and surveillance and for servicing of their fire equipment as a way to be prepared against any eventuality.

He added that the agency will engage in training and retraining of workers and students to be able to mitigate fire incidents in their areas.
