The Society of Young Nigeria Writers Anambra State Chapter has reiterated the need to immortalize the laureate and patriarch of African novel, Chinua Achebe.
The organization stated this during a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba in Awka.
Correspondent Onyinye Agubaeze reports that during the visit, the Coordinator of the group, Mr. Izunna Okafor, applauded Anambra State Government for establishing ‘The Chinua Achebe Prize for Nigerian Writer’s Award in honour of Chinua Achebe, and solicited its support for the 2021 Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture.
Addressing the young writers, Mr. Adinuba, commended their keen interest in literary works, stating that Governor Willie Obiano has done well in giving appointments to literary scholars and writers in his administration.
In a vote of thanks, the acting Director, Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Tony Nweke congratulated the group for its vision towards the literary development in Anambra State and assured the ministry’s support.
The annual literary festival, scheduled to hold on sixteenth of next month, has its theme as ‘Remembering Achebe: In a time like this.
