There is something mutual about the prophecies of great leaders; they emerge from the dusts of hope to the pinnacle of attention. From the biblical examples of Moses, David, Job, Joseph, Gideon and Daniel, to global greats like Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King Junior, Mother Teresa and George Washington.
These names stood the hiccups of time and defeated the turbulences of men. From the infant Moses who was dumped on the river bank by his mother, became a fugitive as a teenager and eventually orchestrated the emancipation of the children of Israel from their slave land of Egypt, to South Africa’s Nelson Mandela who spent twenty-seven years in prison trying to fight for the freedom of his people. These are some of the trademarks of renowned leaders.
Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in Saturday’s Anambra governorship election cuts deeply into these natural antecedents. As a brilliant young student from a very poor family background, Professor Soludo defied social hindrances and went to win a scholarship to study Economics at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Not letting the price tag attached to his name blur his vision, the young Soludo put up a peerless academic performance, graduating with not just first class honours but as the best in the university at the time. The stories of his academic conquest would then go on to excite both national and international audiences, who competed to have his historical autograph.
In 2004, when the then-President Olusegun Obasanjo embarked on an earnest search for an economic messiah; someone who could save the dwindling fiscal situation of Nigeria, Professor Soludo’s name rang a bell, and like Joseph in the land of the Ishmaelite, he brought the instant remedy to Nigeria’s financial dearth. That is the character of a born leader. It is like a glowing lamp on the forehead that illuminates every space, yet it can neither go off nor be put out. It is a change; the real change waiting to happen. It is a fearless crusade to save the future; the future of Anambra State.
Professor Chukwuma Soludo is a prophecy bound to come true. He is a divine handwriting inscribed with an indelible ink. Like the mid-summer cloud that is bound to rain. Now, the responsibility lies with the Anambra electorate to choose right. Ndi Anambra must deal a blow of shame to desperate politicians who are bent on riding to power on the back of chaos. The people of the state must resist the Herodistic attempts to kill the ultimate Anambra dream by bitter antagonists and enemies of peace and democratic choice.
C.C. Soludo equals: Connection, Competence, Capability And Creativity. His four pillars of plan: Economic transformation, Social agenda, Governance, rule of law and value Environment will give Anambra a grand slam economy for an industrialized, viable and virile State with fiscal responsibility.
Who could have said it better than Obasanjo? He said that “Soludo is a man who has ability, who has understanding and who has exposure”. Under Soludo’s Social Agenda, taking care of the vulnerable is a yardstick for measuring the strength and impact of a strong economy on the populace.
Governor Willie Obiano has presented Professor Soludo as the person who has the connection, competence capability and creativity with a plan to continue and take this vision to the next level.
Consequently, the disability community encourages Ndi Anambra to choose and vote for Professor Soludo of APGA to succeed Governor Willie Obiano. A predecessor has not succeeded until his successor succeeds.
