As preparations for the Anambra governorship election gets to its peak, youths have been called upon to participate actively and help the government in achieving a peaceful exercise by refusing to be used as agents of destruction.
The Anambra State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Samuel Egwuatu, who made the call at Njikoka youth day celebration organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Anambra State, Njikoka Chapter, and featured pageantry competition sponsored by Dr Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, said youths are important in achieving peaceful and successful election; which will in turn enthrone leadership that will be responsive to the yearnings of the masses.
He demanded that Governor Willie Obiano’s would-be successor should outperform him, noting that Anambra youths are delighted with developmental strides and various youths’ empowerment programmes of the Obiano administration, and are looking forward to a better deal with the next administration.
Contributing, Mr Obiora Nweke and Uche Ifediba said National Youth Council of Nigeria and Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation have done well in bringing youths together to socialize, urging the youths to remain peace vanguards while participating in the Anambra election.
Earlier in his address, a representative of Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation, Mr. Osoluchukwu Onwuadi, said promoting values among young people motivated him to sponsor the event aimed at self-discovery, urging contestants to leverage on the socio-economic impact of the pageantry competition and not to abuse it.
He listed other charitable works the Foundation is doing to include sponsoring Science quiz competitions for Secondary Schools in the State, as well as awards to students and teachers, adding that the Foundation remains committed to service to humanity and community development.
Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha reports that Miss Chioma Okeke from Abagana won a Toyota Corolla car after beating other contestants in the pageantry competition, while other contestants went home with various consolation prizes.
