Ready to participate in this Saturday’s Anambra governorship election, registered voters in the State, have called on INEC to increase efforts to ensure that Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, get to their owners.
Some of the voters include those who registered newly , those who applied for transfer and those who lost their PVCs.
Correspondent Joseph Egbeocha, who monitored the ongoing distribution of the PVCs reports that on arrival at INEC Local Government office in Amawbia, Abagana and Ukpo, many registered voters were seen going back home disappointed, with only few successful ones.
Some of them at the INEC office in Amawbia, including Mr Patrick Nwume from Awka, Mrs Rosemary Arinze from Nibo said they are not happy that they could not collect their PVCs despite text messages from INEC asking them to go for the cards.
Similar complaints were equally made by Mr. Sunday Ezeimo from Nimo, Olisa Oguama from Abatete and Chinedu Nwankwo from Ukwulu, at Abagana and Ukpo INEC offices respectively.
However, Peter Ayofu, also from Ukwulu, who collected his PVC said it will enable him participate in the Saturday’s election, in addition to other benefits of the card.
INEC official in one of the Local Government Areas visited explained that the Commission is ready for the exercise, adding that sorting and bagging of the PVCs for easy collection are causing the delay, and called for patience.
The INEC official, who acknowledged that voting cubicles, ballot boxes and other nonsensitive materials have arrived for the exercise, urged the political class and relevant stakeholders to assist in mobilising electorate to collect their PVCs and participate in the Anambra election.
