There is a fever-pitch expectation from Ndi Anambra and external observers on the final outcome of the yet-to-be-concluded governorship election in the state.

The governorship poll, which was held on Saturday, November 6, 2021, was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, following absence of voting activities in Ihaila, one of the decider local government areas in Anambra State.

The Returning Officer for the Anambra governorship election and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Florence Obi, had in the early hours of yesterday, after careful examination of the guiding electoral legalities, ruled that elections would hold in Ihiala on Today, November 8, 2021, to give voters there the chance to also exercise their franchise.

Currently, according to INEC, Ihiala boasts of a total of over one hundred and forty-eight thousand registered voters, a number that could change the current swing in the lead.

With results from twenty local government areas already announced so far, All Progressives Grand Alliance’s Professor Chukwuma Soludo is leading with over one hundred and three thousand votes, having won eighteen of the Local Government Areas, while Peoples Democratic Party’s Valentine Ozigbo and All Progressives Congress’ Senator Andy Uba followed with fifty-one thousand and forty-two thousand votes respectively, having won one Local Government Areas each.

However, with the low turnout of voters in last Saturday’s exercise, many political observers foresee the same in Tuesday’s supplementary election in Ihiala.
