Accreditation and voting for yesterday’s Anambra State governorship supplementary election for Ihiala Local Government Area Commenced simultaneously at Saint Augustine’s College, Mbosi, where voters gathered to exercise their franchise.
All the fourteen polling units in Mbosi ward were gathered at one location as a result of the security challenge, though the process was smooth as confirmed by observers on ground and some eligible voters.
However, INEC officials and materials arrived late which resulted to the commencement of the exercise around twenty minutes past twelve, as against ten o’ clock in the morning earlier scheduled.
The area was well protected by armed security agencies including the Military, police and Civil defence.
Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C. Don Adinuba described the turn out of the people in the election as impressive, judging from people’s speculations.
For Professor Emeka Obi of the Department of Public Administration, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, who voted at Mbosi, it was fulfilment and happiness that people of the area eventually had an opportunity to exercise their franchise.
Generally, the supplementary elections in Ihiala Local Government Area appears to have witnessed poor turn out in some areas, like Azia community where late arrival of materials, made some prospective voters to go home, without coming back when voting had commenced.
