The flow of tears was insuppressible as family, colleagues and fans bade farewell to the popular Madam Salo, entertainer and dramatist, the late Mrs Stella Ukamaka Okoye.
Mrs Okoye, a staff of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, and Executive Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Broadcast Media, was interred at her husband’s country home, Umueze Village, Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area.
Correspondent Daniel Ezeigwe reports that not just for her popularity, most mourners who said to have come across late Mrs Okoye attested to her vibrant spirit, eccentric and witty character and inimitable approach to life.
In a sermon at Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia, where the funeral service took place the Vicar and supervising Priest of Amawbia Archdeaconry Reverend Canon Vincent Nkemdilim, said that though death is inevitable, it pains to lose a loved one at an early age, and urged the family of the deceased to be comforted as the world is nobody’s permanent home.
In an interview, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr Uche Nworah, who also represented Governor Willie Obiano and his wife Dr Ebelechukwu said that the name ‘Madam Salo’ is already a legend, with the ABS Film Academy complex already named after Mrs Okoye for her immense role in entertainment and art.
Dr Nworah who asked her family to stay strong through the difficult time, noted that the late Mrs Okoye paid her dues, as a mother, colleague and friend.
At the corporate headquarters of the ABS, where her remains laid in state for some minutes, the Director News and Current Affairs of the establishment, Mr Gab Okpalaeze described ‘Madam Salo’ as a quintessential colleague who, despite her short sojourn on earth, left a lasting mark.
Her colleagues and close friends, Mrs Nneka Ekeunife, who is the Director of Programmes and Ebele Ezeh, spoke about their moments together; the idyllic memories that would linger for life.
As a workplace tradition, staff and management of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, in their numbers, led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Uche Nworah paid condolence to the late Mrs Stella Okoye’s family.
Mrs Stella Okoye Nnee Nwashili, died at the age of forty-five, after a brief illness.
