Anambra State Governor-elect, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has joined millions of Nigerians and Ndigbo in the celebration of the post-humous birthday of the lateDr. Nnamdi Azikiwe the first President of Nigeria.
In a tribute to commemorate the post-humous birthday the Governor-elect, described Dr Azikiwe as an extraordinary leader par excellence whose vision and ideals for the emancipation and development of Nigeria and indeed the African continent was second to none.
He said his Pan Africanist vision and nationalistic ideals coupled with his unequalled public oratorical prowess remain a source of inspiration to many young Nigerians and Africans in the quest for a peaceful and united Africa continent that will lead the rest of the global community.
The Governor-elect, further said aside being a great statesman and an outstanding political leader, Dr Azikiwe was equally the doyen of African nationalism who was a leading voice and driving force behind Nigeria’s independence in 1960.
Professor Soludo stated that Dr Azikiwe will forever be remembered for his virtues and ideals which he preached selflessly and the tremendous efforts he made towards building a United Africa for the black race.
He commended Governor Willie Obiano, for declaring a work-free day in the State in honour of the late sage and appealed to the Federal Government to declare November sixteenth a national holiday in memory of the Great Zik of Africa.
Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Senate President, first Indigenous Governor-General and President of Nigeria.
