The state government has charged Presidents General and traditional rulers of all the communities in the state to step up efforts against un-wanton destruction, stealing and looting of government infrastructures in their various domains.

A statement from the commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, mandates the community leaders to deal decisively with those involved in theft of government properties adding that the community vigilante should be strengthened to be more proactive and sensitive to the government infrastructures.

The statement noted that infrastructures like street lights, generators, armoured cables, transformers and water borehole facilities were among those being destroyed or stolen.

Commissioner Ezenwanne further listed electric poles, solar panels, traffic lights, water tanks and pumps as some of the government infrastructures vandalized or made away with by criminals from schools, roadsides, and other public utilities.

He reminded the Presidents General and Ndi Igwe that further siting of government projects in their communities would be determined by the way they were able to sustain existing ones.
